Joseph Walter Jackson (a.k.a Joe Jackson, born July 26, 1929) is the father of the Jackson musical family, including pop music icons Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, as well as the former manager of The Jackson 5, a group composed of his five sons.

Early life
Jackson was born in Fountain Hill, Arkansas to Crystal Lee King and Samuel Jackson.user posted imageBorn the eldest of four, Joseph moved to Chicago to live with his mother after turning eighteen. He met future wife Katherine Scruse while there and within a couple of years the couple married. Settling in Gary, Indiana, Joseph, a former boxer, worked full-time as a crane operator at Gary's U.S. Steel company, while Katherine tended to their growing brood of children, which led to nine. In the mid-1950s, Joseph started a music career with his brother Luther playing guitar in a band called the Falcons.user posted image The group never got out of Gary and within a couple of years split up though Joseph played his guitar during sing-alongs with his wife and children.

The Jackson 5
By 1964, Joe had begun to discover that his three eldest sons, Jackie, Tito and Jermaine, had talent after they were busted for playing his guitar after a string broke. After Tito played for him and Jackie and Jermaine backed him up vocally, he helped form an early incarnation of The Jackson 5 with two neighborhood youths though eventually younger brothers Marlon and Michael joined.
Within a few years, the Jackson 5 polished their talents under Joseph's strict leadership. In 1966, the Jackson brothers turned professional and began performing in paying gigs, which paid off after the group got signed to Motown in 1969, and shortly afterwards the brothers became worldwide phenomena. Joseph's role as manager dwindled however as Motown CEO Berry Gordyuser posted image began to take more charge on his act, a role that reversed back to Joseph's when he began managing the entire family for performances in Las Vegas. Joseph also helped his sons seal a deal with CBS after leaving Motown distraught that the label didn't allow the boys creative freedom in the studio.

Leaving the nest
Within a few years, however, Joseph's sons each left his managment company to sign with outside managers, starting with Jermaine. In 1982, Joseph also managed the careers of his two daughters La Toya and Janet until they both also left his company for solo ventures, which afterwards saw only just Michael and Janet as the family's ultimate breadwinners.

Current work
user posted image
In late 2005, Joseph announced he would host a boot camp for aspiring hip-hop artists, both to move his career to the next stage and to change what he sees as distasteful about the genre. "Everybody is liking rap now. I'm gonna have to clean it up a little bit, all that vulgar language out there. I'm gonna have to keep that clean, with nice singing in it, and great music behind it".

The book
The Golden Truth about the Jackson Family

user posted image
Now Joseph Jackson presents his very personal view of his family. He describes his efforts to turn his nine children into the most successful musicians ever. He portrays the story of a man who always sacrificed himself as much as possible in order to further the development of his children. But at the same time he doesn’t conceal the fact from his readers that his three daughters and his six sons experienced a strict upbringing. According to Joseph Jackson, instilling a sense of discipline in his children was the only way to ensure they would survive for many years in the tough music business. His fascinating biography draws the picture of an extraordinary family which represents for pop culture what the Kennedys represent for politics.

Joseph published his book Die Jacksons (in German) in 2004.

Katherine Jackson (b. May 4, 1930) is the matriarch of the Jacksons musical dynasty and the mother of pop music icons Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
Born as Katherine Esther Scruse in Barbour County, Alabama, Jackson was the daughter of Martha ("Mattie") Upshaw and Prince Albert Scruse.user posted image An East Chicago, Indiana resident since the age of 4, Katherine contracted polio as a child though she eventually made a full recovery from the disease. Because of the disease's effects, she walks with a noticeable limp. She had to take equivalency courses and got her diploma. Katherine and her sister Hattie grew up listening to country-western radio programs and were members of high school orchestra. Having a beautiful soprano voice, she used to sing and play piano and clarinet for her children, handing them down her musical ability.
In 1947, she met a teenage boxer named Joseph Jackson user posted imageand within two years the couple married and settled in Indiana living in the working-class neighborhood of Gary, where Katherine reared ten children. Marlon Jackson was premature; his twin brother, Brandon, died within hours of birth. She eventually became one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1965 and brought up her nine children in the faith, although most of the children are no longer associated with the organization.
During the Jackson 5's early years, Katherine played a role in the group's development by designing the boys suits in which they performed. After the group's rise to fame as international superstars after signing with Motown, Katherine's role was more limited.
In 1990, Katherine released her autobiography, My Family, user posted image in which she defended her son, Michael. She wrote about her husband Joseph's infidelity that she had suspicions, which were confirmed when a Jackson 5 groupie gave birth to a baby that Joseph fathered. Katherine filed for divorce but later withdrew the proceedings.

Katherine Jackson was present at Michael's child molestation trial in 2005 and supported her son in 1993. During the trial she told reporters that Michael wouldn't harm children.

REBBIE JACKSON

user posted image

• Name: Maureen Reilette JACKSON
• Sex: F
• ALIA: /Rebbie/
• BORN: 29 MAY 1950 Gary, IN
• Death: UNKNOWN in –

Marriage 1 Nathaniel BROWN
• Sex: M
• BORN: Private

Children :
1. Stacee BROWN 1971
2. Yashi BROWN 1977
3. Austin BROWN 1985

The first of nine children born to the union of Joseph and Katherine Jackson, Rebbie was born Maureen Jackson on 29th May, 1950, in Gary, Indiana.
As a youngster, Rebbie (pronounced ree-bee) was taught clarinet and piano by her mother.
She and LaToya sang in church with their mother.Like most eldest children, she often played a caretaker role, looking after baby sister Janet and baby brother Randy while her mother continued her education as an adult student and her famous brothers toured.

Career
It wasn't until after the Jackson 5 had left Motown and signed with CBS Records as the Jacksons in 1976, that Rebbie began a professional singing career, becoming a cabaret singer and background vocalist, credited on LPs by the Emotions, Betty Wright, and others during the '70's and '80's.
She also appeared on the Jacksons' 1976 short-lived CBS-TV variety show.
After the family moved to Hollywood, she started acting, taking a guest role opposite series star Lynda Carter in an episode of ABC-TV's 'Wonder Woman'.
After brother Michael's historic success with the mega-selling 'Thriller', he was given the chance to write and produce.
His first project was Rebbie's first single 'Centipede', released on Columbia Records.
Featuring synthesizer chores by John Barnes, the single was a million-seller, hitting number four R & B, number 24 pop on Billboard's charts in the autumn of 1984.
The 'Centipede' LP, released in October 1984 was produced by former Crusaders member Wayne Henderson, who produced the follow-up single 'Fork in the Road' (number 40 R & B, early 1985), a cover of the song that was the B-side of the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' 1965 hit, 'The Tracks of My Tears.'
Her next album 'Reaction' was issued October 1986 and included tracks produced by David 'Pic' Conley and David Townsend of the group Surface, Rebbie's brother Tito Jackson, Vassal Benford, and Reggie Lucas.
The title track single hit number 16 R & B, summer 1986.
The follow-up was 'You Send the Rain Away,' a duet ballad with Cheap Trick lead singer Robin Zander that made it to number 50 R & B in late 1986.
Another duet ballad, 'Tonight I'm Yours' with Isaac Hayes, received substantial airplay as an album track but curiously was not released as a single.
'R U Tuff Enuff' was the title of her third Columbia album, issued February 1988.
The first single, 'Plaything' b / w 'Distant Conversation,' went to number eight R & B in early 1988.
The second single was the title track, which included a rap by Melle Mel and peaked at number 78 R & B in summer 1988.
Her records' popularity with followers of the U.K.'s rare groove and two step scene, prompted the release of 'The Rebbie Jackson Collection' by U.K. label Expansion in July 1996.
After a break from show business in which she moved to Virginia, Rebbie signed with Michael Jackson's MJJ label (distributed through Sony) in the late '90's.
Her label debut album 'Yours Faithfully' was released in March 1998.

Although she is the eldest member of the famous Jackson family, Rebbie is one of the few in the Jackson family to avoid scandals. Rebbie has been married to her childhood sweetheart Nathaniel Brown since 1968. The couple has three children including two daughters, Stacee and Yashi, and son, Austin, also known as Auggie. All three children are singers, with Stacee and Yashi forming a group originally called the X-Girls (now known as Geneva) while Auggie is currently finishing up his debut album. When her mother, Katherine Jackson, became a Jehovah's Witness in 1965, Rebbie followed her into the faith.

In the future, Rebbie, who loves to work with children, also longs to sing the theme for a major motion picture ... preferably a Disney project. She already contributed to the soundtrack of Free Willy 2. And she still dreams of starring in her own movie musical. "It's a privilege to share music with people," Rebbie concludes, "I want to do the very best I can."

Biography

With his siblings, Tito Jackson, Michael Jackson, Jermaine Jackson and Marlon Jackson, Jackie Jackson was part of the famous 70s group, the Jackson 5. Jackie Jackson was the co-lead singer along with his brother Michael Jackson.

Early life

user posted image
Born Sigmund Esco Jackson in 1951 in Gary, Indiana, Jackie Jackson began recording and playing with his brothers at an early age. He used to sneak his father's guitar and practiced with his brothers every chance he got. At the age of 12 when his father finally realized the boys were using his guitar when he wasn't around, Jackie, Michael, Marlon, Tito and Jermaine were given a chance to perform. The group performed in front of their father first who became enthusiastic about the boys' talents and abilities. With encouragement from both parents, the Jackson 5 were ready to make a public appearance. Joe Jackson, their father, worked part time at a mill and full time as the manager of the group.

The Jackson 5

user posted image

In 1963 the group won a talent contest singing the Temptations' hit "My Girl". user posted image Their first professional debut was a local nightclub in Indiana called Mr. Lucky's user posted image Keith Gordon, the owner of the only recording studio in Gary, Indiana decided to give the quintet a shot. In 1967 the group produced the song "Big Boy" on the Steeltown label. user posted image By the summer of 1968 after opening for the likes of Jerry Buffer, the Chi-Lites and Little Miss Soul, the Jackson 5 were on their way to Detroit to make an even bigger name for themselves.
Between 1969 and 1970 the quintet became a household name on the Motown circuit, producing on the Motown record label. Along with their harmony and rhythm, the group choreographed their numbers. The quintet became a singing and dancing sensation with number one hits "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There." They capitalized on their success with lunch boxes and a Saturday morning cartoon show depicting the boys. The first hit, "I Want You Back," soared instantly to number one and sold more than two million copies.
After successfully recording 13 albums, the group felt a need to move on. Because they played Motown for so long, the transition wasn't easy. Motown owned the name Jackson 5 so when the group signed with Epic Records in 1976, the became the Jacksons. Jermaine Jackson had decided to stay on with the Motown record label so Randy Jackson was brought in to replace him. Despite their successes, the Jackson 5 split to pursue solo interests.
Jackie Jackson was known as the co-lead singer of the both the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons. With his distinguishable high voice, he often led the three other singers. In the hit "Love Don't Wanna Lead," he sings with such feeling and one can easily pick out his voice.

Solo career

Jackie released his solo debut in 1973 to capitalize on the Jackson 5 franchise the same way that younger brothers Jermaine and Michael had done. His self-titled debut failed to generate sales and none of the singles released were hits. Jackie put plans for a solo career on hold until 1989 when he released Be The One shortly after the release of the last Jacksons album, 2300 Jackson Street. Peaking at #89 R&B, the album yielded two R&B hits, "Stay" and "Cruzin". Jackie hasn't released an album since.

Current years

His last performance was with his five younger brothers during a reunion performance at Madison Square Garden in 2001. Jackie currently lives in California where he runs the record company, Jesco. user posted image Artists signed to the label include rapper Mike Street from the Long Island, New York group Emstate, and his son, rapper DealZ who released a first "mixtape" in Aug 2007.

Personal life

Jackie married his first and only wife, Enid Spann, in 1974. They divorced in 1987.He has two children - daughter Brandi, and Sigmund "Siggy" (who is a rapper and goes by the name DealZ). Jackie is currently single.

Michael on Tito : "Tito is very quiet and soft but can be really strong when necessary. He's always there when we need him and manages to project an inner calm which is vital within a family unit."

BIOGRAPHY

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson’s poetic lyrics, irrepressible vocals, and evocative musicianship are a faint reflection of the remarkable gifts that characterize Gary, Indiana’s native son. Born Toriano Adaryll Jackson, Tito has spent his entire life enchanting music lovers with soulful harmonies interwoven with curvaceous rhythms as a member of Motown’s greatest discovery, The Jacksons (Jackson 5), and presently as a multi-faceted solo artist. Tito’s unyielding passion for blues, R&B, pop, and other music forms is the secret to his boundless energy and rare achievements in the ever-changing entertainment spectrum.
In 1962, before the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons, Tito performed in a local group called The Jackson Brothers. After competing and winning local talent shows in and around Gary, the precocious brothers were victorious again on the most prestigious amateur stage of all — Manhattan’s Apollo Theater. In that same year Tito and his brothers made their first studio recording (local label), titled “Big Boy.” Not only did it turn out to be a local hit, but it set the stage for a partnership with Motown Records (1969) and subsequent appearances on the top-rated Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand, Soul Train, and later, their own primetime television series in 1976, on CBS. In addition to this, Tito and his brothers’ soaring popularity with America’s youth was so captivating that they were captioned in a Saturday morning, ABC TV animation series.
Tito and his brothers signed with Epic Records and officially came under a new name, The Jackson’s, in 1976. In 1978 he co-wrote the songs “Everybody,” “Destiny,” and “Push Away” for his new record label. As the group The Jackson’s, including Tito, they self-produced the Destiny album. Later, for the Victory Album Tito produced, wrote, and sang on “We Can Change The World,” which was featured on their popular Victory Tour.
A father of three young men (Taj, Taryll, and TJ), known to the music world as 3T, Tito works closely with his sons. This is consistent with the fine direction that he received from his loving mother Katherine and his caring father Joe. In addition to working with sisters Janet, Rebbie, and La Toya, Tito has worked with countless fine musicians, singers, and producers, such as the preeminent production team of Gamble & Huff, LA Reid & Baby Face, and the versatile Howard Hewitt.
One of the performing highlights of the remarkable career of Tito Jackson is the unforgettable reunion performance on one of histories most watched television specials, Motown 25. The show signaled a pivotal point in his dazzling career and an auspicious focus on likely the greatest performer to ever grace a stage, Michael Jackson. In 1997 Tito and his brothers were ceremonially honored as inductees of the well-respected Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Tito’s initial success with the recording masterpieces “I Want You Back,” “Never Can Say Goodbye”, “I’ll Be There,” (best selling single in Motown’s history), and other mega-hits is the genesis of an indefatigable trek into modern musical immortality. Tito Jackson’s eclectic musical arrow is aimed in the direction of diverse genres, R& B, blues, and pop. And at this juncture, Tito plans a series of recording ventures that will include a solo debut album featuring a caravan of styles. Although some of his numerous influences include blues greats Albert Collins and B.B. King, in reality his musical tastes defy nomenclature. Some projects will include collaborations with his son’s group, 3T, while other CD’s may involve his creative siblings along with collaborations from an assemblage of noteworthy artists. However, make no mistake about it, most of his work will consist of impressive solo projects with songs that are arranged, produced, and performed by Tito himself. Presently (2005) he is in the process of completing his new project for a 2006 global release. By doing this, fans around the globe will experience the true essence of Tito Jackson as a premier solo artist and as one of music industries’ group icons. Tito and his band, sporting a frenetic pulse, will also rock the world again through a number of riveting live shows.
The measure of Tito Jackson’s influence can be best captured by expressions such as these: “One of the kindest, more pleasant people in show business,” said a major entertainment publicist. His brother Michael also had this to say about him, “Tito is very quiet and soft, but can be really strong when necessary. He’s always there when we need him and manages to project an inner calm which is vital within a family unit ”. Those statements have proven to be consistently true through the ups and downs of the exciting but rigorous show business lifestyle. As an international artist, the demure Tito has garnered great respect from his peers and fans alike. His emphasis on fairness and loyalty in the music business community is a hallmark of his aplomb and selfless style.
Tito’s love of music can be transcended only by his undying love of God, family, and friends. Tito’s mark on music history and the rich legacy that he established is one that has stood the test of time and is one that will flourish for as long as there is a song to sing!
